August 13, 1966: "The Barn"

There are lots of fascinating stories from our relatives but nothing seems to be more of a mystery (or controversial) than "how did the barn burn down?"  Below is the newspaper photo and clippings from the Beaver Press:

It reads "Prompt and hot work on the part of the Volunteer Fire Department aided by friends and neighbors saved the home of Mrs. Arnold Parkinson last Saturday when the two barns and other outbuildings and fences caught fire and burned.  Gordon Baker, shown on the roof, is credited with saving the house with his fast and steady work of keeping the roof wet with a garden hose.  The tanker truck shown on the right was able to keep the fire down in the garage until the arrival of water from the city pumper which supplied water from the ditch.  The City and County have had men and equipment on the scene for two days doing the work of cleaning up.  They report one more day's work will finish the job."
